View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjanghyun) has established a smart civil complaint waiting system and will provide real-time waiting status through the district website starting in March. This is to improve the satisfaction of visitors using civil services.
In the future, citizens visiting the Yongsan-gu Office civil service counters for certificate issuance, family relationship registration, and passport processing can check the real-time number of people waiting in advance using a PC or smartphone and choose a less crowded time to visit.
A district official said, “Before COVID-19, an average of 300 residents visited daily for passport, certificate, and family relationship-related services,” adding, “Civil complaints especially increase during specific project application periods such as subsidy applications and temporary worker recruitment.”
The number of people waiting can be checked on the district website, comprehensive civil service guide, and real-time civil service office waiting status.
If visitors come during busy times without checking the waiting status, they can take a number ticket and wait comfortably nearby in cafes or vehicles.
Seongjanghyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “The government predicted a peak of up to 270,000 in March, indicating an endemic,” and added, “The district will thoroughly prepare for the increased demand for administrative services after COVID-19 while ensuring strict quarantine measures.”
The district also operates an ‘After-hours Civil Service Office’ every Tuesday from 6 PM to 8 PM to alleviate inconvenience for residents who find it difficult to use civil services during working hours. The services covered include issuance of resident registration certificates, family relationship registration certificates, seals, and passport application, review, and issuance.
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) announced on the 25th that it raised a total of about 1.77 billion KRW through the ‘2022 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ conducted over three months since last November.
The ‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ is an annual project jointly conducted by the district and the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest. This year’s fundraising amount increased by 13.4% compared to last year’s approximately 1.56 billion KRW. Moreover, it far exceeded the initial target of about 1.64 billion KRW and achieved the highest fundraising amount ever.
In particular, the love piggy bank donations collected by children from national/public, private, and home daycare centers in the region over a year reached about 40 million KRW. A local company donated sponsorship goods worth about 160 million KRW for low-income residents. Additionally, in Sangbong 2-dong, a basic livelihood security recipient donated 1 million KRW, which was saved little by little over a lifetime, continuing a donation relay that added warmth.
Donated goods worth about 1.27 billion KRW were primarily delivered to about 18,000 households of low-income residents such as national basic livelihood security recipients, elderly living alone, single-parent families, and children in foster care to help them have a warm winter. The remaining 500 million KRW in donations will be used throughout the year for projects tailored to each neighborhood’s characteristics, such as discovering and supporting welfare blind spots.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “During these difficult times with the spread of Omicron, it is gratifying that warm hearts gathered to raise the highest amount of donations and goods ever. I thank everyone who participated in the donations,” and added, “This year, we will actively promote various ‘Jungnang-type welfare policies’ to create a ‘warmer welfare Jungnang together.’”
The district plans to present awards and certificates of appreciation to individuals and organizations who practiced neighborly love through donations of money and goods.
Amid the lingering cold snap that teases spring, recently in Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young), Mok 2-dong and Sinwol 3-dong experienced heartwarming moments thanks to donation angels.
Mok 2-dong (Dong Chief Jo In-joo) announced that it received 7 million KRW in youth support funds from Seongmun Church (Senior Pastor Ko Dong-hoon). This donation ceremony was arranged at the suggestion of the Mok 2-dong Community Security Council (Chairman Kim Jung-soo) to support vulnerable youth in the area preparing for the new school semester.
The donated 7 million KRW will be distributed as ‘entrance congratulatory money’ to 33 prospective elementary, middle, and high school students at the end of February through the Mok 2-dong Community Security Council.
Since October 2002, Seongmun Church has partnered with five senior centers in Mok 2-dong, providing monthly support funds of 600,000 KRW and has participated annually in warm winter fundraising. Jo In-joo, Mok 2-dong Chief, said, “This entrance support fund will be exciting news like spring for our local youth starting a new chapter,” and expressed sincere gratitude to Seongmun Church for their continuous community contributions.
Meanwhile, in Sinwol 3-dong (Dong Chief Ahn Ki-joo), an anonymous donor donated 2 million KRW in cash along with a letter at the resident center’s civil service counter on the 23rd (photo).
The anonymous donor, who spent a difficult childhood in Sinwol 3-dong, left a hopeful message wishing for a ‘miracle of 2 million KRW’ and requested that the donation be used for neighbors in need within the community.
Ahn Ki-joo, Sinwol 3-dong Chief, said, “The heartfelt letter written carefully stroke by stroke revealed the donor’s sincere concern for neighbors,” and added, “We will carefully manage the donated funds to be used for vulnerable groups in the community who need help.”
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) was finally selected in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s public contest for the ‘Strengthening Public Service Linkage in Residents’ Daily Life’ project.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety conducts an annual contest to support linkage and cooperation among public services to solve community problems.
Geumcheon-gu’s ‘Smart Geumcheon Companion Activity Support Project,’ which proposed a public service linkage model including establishing a human safety net centered on neighborhoods to discover welfare blind spots and activate solitary death prevention projects, was finally selected and will receive 50 million KRW in national funding. The district plans to implement the project with a total of 100 million KRW, combining the 50 million KRW secured from the contest and 50 million KRW from the district budget.
The ‘Smart Geumcheon Companion Activity Support Project’ operates neighborhood welfare schools for Geumcheon companions, a welfare human safety net, enabling residents to identify local problems and establish village welfare plans to directly solve community issues. Geumcheon companions are honorary social welfare officers composed of neighborhood welfare councils, welfare community leaders, and Tongtong Hope Narae groups. They discover at-risk households in the area and connect them to services.
Specifically, the project includes ▲forming an education planning team centered on neighborhood welfare councils ▲operating neighborhood welfare schools and establishing village plans ▲implementing neighborhood-specific projects ▲and promoting neighborhood-level solitary death prevention projects.
In particular, the neighborhood-level solitary death prevention project will expand the Geumcheon-style side dish voucher support project ‘Together Chan Chan Chan,’ recognized as an excellent case in the ‘Public Service Blind Spot Resolution’ category in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s local government innovation evaluation, to fill welfare service gaps for middle-aged single-person households.
