Prevention of Forest Disasters through Completion of 13 Watershed Dam and Stream Conservation Projects by June
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that it aims to complete the erosion control projects by June, when the rainy season begins, to prevent forest disasters such as landslides caused by heavy rainfall.
Erosion control projects involve installing forest disaster prevention facilities to prevent loss of life and property damage in residential areas adjacent to forests due to landslides or debris flows caused by heavy rainfall.
The city will invest 2 billion KRW by June to install erosion control facilities at a total of 13 sites, including 6 erosion control dams, 4 stream conservation sites, and 3 mountain erosion control sites.
Additionally, safety inspections of erosion control facilities and surveys of areas at risk of landslides have been initiated. To prepare for heavy summer rains, a landslide prevention and response system will be established to prevent forest disasters in advance and enable immediate response in case of disaster occurrence.
A Suncheon City Forestry Department official stated, “We will complete the erosion control projects on time in preparation for heavy rainfall and devote all efforts to preventing forest disasters to protect precious lives and property.”
