Jungnang-gu Begins Construction of Resident-Shared and Co-Parenting Facility 'Sagajeong Majung Village Vitality Center'
[Seoul District News] Jungnang-gu Transforms Space Troubled by Drunk People and Trash into Resident-Use Area... Basement 1 Floor, 5-Story Building with Shared Resident Space and Co-Parenting Facilities... Welcome Spring with Colorful 'Yakcho Foot Bath'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 23rd to commence construction of the new ‘Sagajeong Majung Village Vitalization Center’ near Exit 1 of Sagajeong Station.
The construction project of the Sagajeong Majung Village Vitalization Center is part of the “Sagajeong 51-gil Specialized Street Development Project,” which has been underway since 2018, centered around Exits 1 and 2 of Line 7 Sagajeong Station.
The Sagajeong Eoullim Madang, where the Sagajeong Majung Village Vitalization Center will be built, has been a place where many residents experienced inconvenience due to chronic issues such as intoxicated individuals and garbage, despite several improvements over time.
From the early design stages, the district incorporated opinions from nearby residents and merchants through ‘Resident Consensus Workshops,’ resulting in a design that demolishes all existing facilities and transforms the site into a five-story building above ground and one basement floor, serving as a shared space for residents.
The Sagajeong Majung Village Vitalization Center will include amenities such as a book caf?, club rooms, seminar rooms, a shared kitchen, and a communal childcare room, making it a community space accessible to all generations, from infants to the elderly.
Additionally, during the construction period, the district plans to form an operating committee with local residents to establish operational guidelines and regulations, ensuring stable management after completion.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu stated, “While creating the space is important, how it will be operated in the future is even more crucial. We will carefully oversee it to become a space where anyone can comfortably enjoy.”
The ‘Village Vitalization Centers,’ serving as resting places and spaces for meeting and sharing for Jungnang residents, began with the opening of ‘Sangbong Majung Village Vitalization Center’ in November 2018, followed by ‘Gyeomjae Majung’ in 2021 and ‘Junghwa Majung’ in 2022, all currently in operation.
Furthermore, ‘Mangu Majung Village Vitalization Center’ is under construction for opening in March this year. With the new Sagajeong Majung Village Vitalization Center breaking ground, a total of five village vitalization centers will be in operation going forward.
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center (Seoul Yakryeongsi Korean Medicine Museum) will resume its ‘Herbal Foot Bath Experience’ program from March 1 to the end of November.
This is to allow residents exhausted from COVID-19 to enjoy cultural activities and manage their health through wellness experiences.
The ‘Herbal Foot Bath Experience’ is a wellness program held at the outdoor foot bath on the second floor of the beautiful Hanok building of the Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center (hereafter the Center).
The foot bath, made of cypress wood, uses different herbs depending on the season: from March to May, ‘Ssuk’ (mugwort), rich in vitamin A, to awaken spring lethargy; from June to August, ‘Bakha’ (mint), refreshing to beat the summer heat; and from September to November, ‘Gamgyul’ (citrus), excellent for skin moisturizing and whitening, providing a healthy healing time.
Especially from this year, dried herbs previously used have been replaced with powdered herbs to enhance skin absorption. The foot bath solution includes Dead Sea salt, good for exfoliation, and aroma oils for moisturizing, offering not only beauty benefits but also a subtle fragrance.
Additionally, the powdered herbs dissolve in water, coloring it in five hues, adding visual enjoyment and providing visitors with a special Korean medicine foot bath experience.
