Steel Association Publishes 'Steel Industry Major Accident Casebook' to Prevent Serious Accidents
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The Korea Iron & Steel Association, together with the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, has published the "Steel Industry Major Accident Casebook."
In order to comply with the Serious Accident Punishment Act, which has been in effect since the 27th of last month, the casebook analyzes major accident cases occurring in the steel industry to be used for preventing recurrence.
Since the enactment of the "Serious Accident Punishment Act," which holds corporate management responsible criminally, the steel industry has been making significant efforts to establish safety and health management systems. Accordingly, the Korea Iron & Steel Association, with the help of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, analyzed cases of major accidents to identify hazardous and dangerous factors and published a casebook aimed at preventing recurrence of the same accidents and conducting risk assessments.
The casebook analyzes major accidents in the steel industry over the past five years and categorizes them into three types: caught-in, falls, and others (such as fires and explosions). It presents major accident cases by type. There are a total of 14 cases: 6 caught-in, 5 falls, and 3 others. Each case includes illustrations to help visually understand the overview of the accidents. Additionally, by providing causes of accidents and preventive measures, it is expected to offer practical assistance in preventing major accidents in the steel industry.
