"World Will Hold Accountable" US Biden Condemns Russia's Attack on Ukraine (Update)
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] On the 23rd (local time), U.S. President Joe Biden strongly condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin's declaration of a special military operation in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, stating that "the world will hold Russia accountable."
According to the White House, President Biden said in a separate statement that "the prayers of the world tonight will be with the people of Ukraine who are under unprovoked and unjust attacks by Russian forces," adding that "President Putin has chosen a planned war that will bring tragic loss of life."
He condemned the invasion, saying, "The loss of life and destruction that this invasion will bring is Russia's responsibility," and "The United States, its allies, and partners will respond in unity."
President Biden mentioned that after monitoring the situation at the White House and receiving updates from the national security team, he will hold talks with representatives of the Group of Seven (G7) on the morning of the 24th. He also announced that the U.S., its allies, and partners will impose additional sanctions on Russia for its unnecessary invasion that threatens Ukraine and global peace and security. He added that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will cooperate for a strong and unified response.
