[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Minjae] The Small Enterprise and Market Service (SEMAS) will begin recruiting cooperatives to participate in the ‘Small Business Cooperative Market Expansion Support Project’ starting from the 25th.

The Small Business Cooperative Market Expansion Support Project is designed to support small business cooperatives in increasing sales and enhancing self-sustainability. Through this project, SEMAS supported a total of 200 cooperatives last year.

The eligible cooperatives are those that have previously benefited from SEMAS’s other project, the ‘Small Business Collaboration Activation Joint Project,’ and meet the qualification requirements. To focus support on growing cooperatives, this year additional eligibility criteria have been added, including ▲at least 10 members ▲10% sales growth ▲10% employment achievement.

A support system based on growth stages according to cooperatives’ business duration, scale, sales, and employment standards has been established to provide customized support for each cooperative. Customized support is divided into online and offline categories. Online support includes market education related to platform entry, live commerce support, and overseas platform expansion. Offline support includes participation in major exhibitions, market consulting, and buyer distribution meetings.

Additionally, a specialized overseas export project will be promoted to strengthen the export capabilities of cooperatives and activate support for related content production. Offline projects will be supported in cooperation with KOTRA, while online projects will assist overseas platform entry through specialized institutions.

Jo Bonghwan, Director of SEMAS, stated, “The Small Business Cooperative Market Expansion Support Project is an opportunity to expand cooperatives’ distribution channels and enhance their competitiveness both online and offline,” adding, “We hope for active interest and participation from many small business cooperatives.”
