◆ Special Measures for Forest Fire Prevention
Tongyeong City, Gyeongnam Province, is implementing special measures at the ‘Severe’ level of the forest fire alert.
In the Tongyeong area, the cumulative rainfall from December last year to the 15th of this month was only 4 mm, which is 3.3% of the 122 mm recorded during the same period last year.
Accordingly, the city judged the risk of forest fires to be high and decided to take measures at the ‘Severe’ level, which is higher than the national forest fire alert level issued by the Korea Forest Service.
The forest fire alert levels issued by the Korea Forest Service are divided into four stages: Interest, Caution, Warning, and Severe.
The city will strengthen the operation of the forest fire prevention task force and enhance initial response capabilities by operating firefighting teams during dawn and nighttime. Additionally, forest fire watchers will be concentrated during vulnerable times, and the city plans to conduct job training for forest fire prevention personnel and non-face-to-face forest fire prevention campaigns.
