Geochang-gun Implements 'Serious Accident Punishment Act' Training for Local Earth and Stone Industry Business Owners
Enhancing Employer Safety Awareness through Proactive Education in High-Risk Industries for Serious Accidents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 22nd that it conducted education for 15 business owners and safety managers engaged in earth and stone industries in the area to prevent serious accidents under the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
The Serious Accident Punishment Act is a law enacted to protect citizens and workers from serious accidents. It stipulates that if casualties occur due to violations of safety and health measures at workplaces and public facilities, business owners and management officials will be punished.
In January, a quarry accident occurred in Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do. Since Geochang-gun has many stone and earth extraction sites such as granite quarrying, and accidents during quarry operations are highly likely to lead to fatal serious accidents, this education was conducted.
The education was conducted in the order of the head of the Geochang-gun Safety General Division and the Serious Accident Prevention T/F team leader educating on the overview of the Serious Accident Punishment Act and its penalty provisions, followed by the Geochang-gun safety manager explaining safety precautions for quarry operations.

Governor Gu In-mo said, “Although quarries in Geochang-gun have fewer than 50 regular workers and are still subject to the grace period of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, I hope that through this education, by providing prior guidance on matters related to the Act, workplaces will take the lead in establishing proactive safety and health management systems.”
