Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Invests 22.8 Billion Won to Support 2,000 Jobs in Performing Arts Sector
Mitigating Employment Shock from COVID-19
180,000 KRW Monthly Support per Person for 6 Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 21st that it will support a total of 2,000 jobs in the performing arts sector, which has been stagnated due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, in collaboration with the Korea Arts Council.
This support is being carried out with an investment of 22.8 billion won to alleviate the employment shock in the performing arts sector caused by COVID-19 and to reduce the labor cost burden of performing arts organizations excluded from compensation for losses.
Previously, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism promoted workforce support projects in the performing arts sector through the third supplementary budget in 2020 and the first and second supplementary budgets in 2021.
This year, a monthly labor cost of up to 1.8 million won per artist will be supported for up to six months across all performing arts activities. Organization representatives can also receive labor cost support, but personnel who participated in last year’s project are excluded from this support.
