Around 1cm of Snow on Commuting Routes in the Seoul Metropolitan Area... Seoul Morning Temperature at -7.9°C
Snow Flurries from Evening on Chungnam and Jeolla West Coasts
Seoul Morning Low -7.9°C... Cold Weather Continues Until the 24th
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On Monday the 21st, about 1cm of snow is expected to fall in the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Yeongseo region from morning to daytime.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) stated that due to the influence of a pressure trough passing through the north, a snow cloud band will develop over the central West Sea, causing snow to fall on the West Coast of Incheon and Gyeonggi between 8 and 9 a.m., and in Seoul and other parts of the metropolitan area between 9 and 10 a.m.
The KMA urged, "In areas where snow is falling, visibility will be low, and many roads will be slippery due to icy patches or frozen surfaces. Drivers should operate vehicles at low speeds and maintain safe distances to ensure traffic safety."
From afternoon to night, snow will also fall in the mountainous areas of Jeju, and from evening, snow flurries are expected along the West Coast of Chungnam and Jeolla. In the northern Chungnam region and central Chungbuk, snow flurries may occur late afternoon on the 22nd.
Expected snowfall amounts are around 1cm in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, the five West Sea islands, and Jeju mountainous areas. In Chungnam, northern Chungbuk, and Jeolla regions, less than 0.1cm of snow flurries are expected.
As of 7 a.m., temperatures by region are Seoul -7.9°C, Incheon -5.4°C, Suwon -7.0°C, Chuncheon -13.5°C, Gangneung -3.7°C, Cheongju -6.2°C, Daejeon -7.4°C, Jeonju -5.8°C, Gwangju -4.3°C, Daegu -4.7°C, Busan -4.4°C, Ulsan -4.7°C, Changwon -5.3°C, Jeju 3.0°C. The highest daytime temperatures are expected to range from 3 to 9°C.
Cold wave warnings are in effect mainly in northern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, northern Chungbuk, and northern inland Gyeongbuk, where morning temperatures will drop below -10°C and strong winds will make the wind chill even colder. This cold spell will continue until the 24th.
Dryness warnings are currently in effect in the central region, eastern Jeonnam, and Gyeongsang areas. Although snow is falling in some places, precipitation amounts are low, so dryness warnings are likely to remain. Due to dry air and strong winds, caution is advised against house fires and forest fires.
Fine dust levels are expected to be 'Good' to 'Moderate' across all regions due to favorable atmospheric dispersion.
From afternoon until the day after tomorrow, strong winds with speeds of 8 to 12 m/s and gusts exceeding 15 m/s are expected along the coasts nationwide and some inland areas.
In the East Sea offshore area, winds will be very strong at 10 to 16 m/s until afternoon, with waves reaching 2 to 4 meters high. Ships engaged in navigation or fishing should exercise special caution.
