Genesis Wins Triple Crown as 'Car of the Year' by Canadian Automobile Journalists Association
The Best Premium Compact Car 'G70'
GV70 and GV80 Selected as the Best Premium Mid-Size and Full-Size SUVs
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Genesis announced on the 18th that it won three awards in the '2022 Car of the Year' categories selected by the Canadian Automobile Journalists Association.
The Canadian Automobile Journalists Association annually selects and announces the Car of the Year in a total of 13 categories, including 'Best Premium Compact Car' and 'Best Premium Midsize Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV),' through voting.
Last year, over 50 automotive journalists belonging to the Canadian Automobile Journalists Association tested more than 250 vehicles. They evaluated 20 criteria including exterior design, cargo space, convenience and entertainment features, noise and vibration, engine, and transmission.
The Canadian Automobile Journalists Association selected the G70 as the 'Best Premium Compact Car,' the GV70 as the 'Best Premium Midsize SUV,' and the GV80 as the 'Best Premium Large SUV' in the '2022 Car of the Year' categories.
The G70 received high scores in overall value evaluation, including performance and dynamic design. The G70 was previously selected as the 'Best Car' in 2019 and 2021 at the Auto Trader Awards, hosted by Auto Trader, Canada's leading online used car trading platform. Additionally, the G70 was named the 'Best Compact Luxury Sedan' for four consecutive years at the Auto Trader Awards.
The GV70 earned high marks in interior design, passenger environment, build quality, and overall vehicle value. The GV70 was honored with two awards at the 2022 Auto Trader Awards, winning 'Best SUV' and 'Best Luxury 2nd Row SUV.' It also secured the title of '2022 SUV of the Year' from Guide Auto, a prominent Canadian automotive media outlet.
On the 3rd of this month, the Canadian Automobile Journalists Association awarded the '2022 Automotive Innovation Award' for safety innovation to the 'Advanced Rear Occupant Alert' and for technological innovation to the 'Fingerprint Authentication System.'
The GV80 recorded its second award this year. The GV80, which was named '2021 SUV of the Year' by the Canadian Automobile Journalists Association last year, was also listed in the 'Best Premium Midsize SUV' category. Furthermore, the GV80 has received high praise in Canada, including being selected as the 'Best Luxury 3rd Row SUV' at the 2021 Auto Trader Awards.
The Canadian Automobile Journalists Association selects one final winning vehicle each from the passenger car and SUV categories among the Cars of the Year chosen in each category. The G70 was selected as a finalist in the passenger car category, and the GV70 was a finalist in the SUV category.
Stephanie Walkraft, President of the Canadian Automobile Journalists Association, said, "It is no small feat for one brand to win in five categories," adding, "The association's judges are the largest group of automotive experts in Canada, and it is very meaningful that Genesis was chosen in various categories through their objective evaluations."
