Namwon-si Publishes 'Volume 6 Eastern Region' of Namwon Record Survey Collection

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk, announced on the 17th that it has published the 6th story of the Namwon Documentation Survey Project, which has been ongoing since 2017, titled Eastern Region ‘Geography, Understanding Differences.’

The Eastern Region refers to the four eup/myeon areas of Namwon located on the foothills of Jirisan Mountain: Unbong-eup, Inwol-myeon, Ayoung-myeon, and Sannae-myeon. The documentation work was carried out as the 6th archiving subject of the Namwon Authenticity Hall to record and preserve the difficult-to-restore aspects of Namwon.

Following the 1st survey in Geumdong (November 2017), the 2nd in Dongchung-dong (April 2018), the 3rd in Jukhang-dong (December 2018), the 4th in Wangjeong-dong (August 2020), and the 5th in Noam-dong (January 2021), this was the first survey focusing on Namwon’s eup/myeon areas, conducted over approximately six months through a cultural anthropological approach.

The 6th Eastern Region survey traced the daily lives lived on the foothills of Jirisan, aligned with Namwon’s history, by examining various literature, statistics, and verification materials, and reimagined them based on residents’ memories and records.

In particular, including materials held by the Namwon Authenticity Hall, a comprehensive collection and classification of various records, photographs, newspaper articles, and administrative documents were conducted to express both the common daily life and individual stories of the four eup/myeon areas.

The documented Namwon records will be published as a survey book and also composed as exhibition content for the Namwon Authenticity Hall to preserve Namwon’s memories in records, which will be open to Namwon citizens as well as tourists visiting Namwon.

A city official said, “We hope many people will feel the warmth of Namwon, which has lived with Jirisan Mountain that embraces diverse lives and offers comfort, through this book and visit often.”

Meanwhile, the ‘Namwon Authenticity Hall’ features modern and contemporary records exhibitions of Namwon and various experiential contents. It operates from Tuesday to Sunday every week and is open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
