Yoo Jae-suk, Jeon Hyun-moo Followed by Kim Sung-joo Testing Positive... Broadcasting Industry on Thin Ice (Comprehensive)
Broadcaster Kim Seongju Tests Positive
Appears on 8 Programs
Production Schedule Disrupted
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Broadcaster Kim Seongju, who is active as a fixed host on eight broadcasting programs, has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to his agency Janggun Entertainment on the 15th, Kim Seongju experienced a sore throat and tested positive on a COVID-19 self-test kit (rapid antigen). He then received a positive result on a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test conducted on the 14th.
He has completed three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and his symptoms are mild as he remains isolated at home.
Kim Seongju is currently hosting eight fixed programs including MBC's "King of Mask Singer," KBS2's "Our Operation Time," "Gaeseungja," JTBC's "Gather and Play 2," TV Chosun's "The Nation Calls," "The Nation," Channel A·SKY Channel's "Steel Troops 2," and IHQ's "My Name is Caddy."
Accordingly, each program's production team has recommended testing to those who had contact with him and is reviewing the next recording schedules while closely monitoring the situation.
MBC's "King of Mask Singer" is recorded biweekly, so there is no disruption to the broadcast schedule. Whether the recording will proceed in a week will be decided based on Kim Seongju's condition.
KBS2's "Gaeseungja" was recorded on the 12th, and the production staff who had close contact with Kim Seongju were advised to get tested. There is sufficient time before the next recording, so no impact on future schedules is expected. Previously, comedian Yoon Hyungbin, who also appears on "Gaeseungja," tested positive and has since returned.
KBS2's "Our Operation Time" has canceled this week's recording and plans to proceed next week. They stated there will be no disruption to the scheduled broadcast.
The production team of "Steel Troops 2," which canceled and postponed its production briefing on the 14th, is reviewing the next recording schedule. The first broadcast is scheduled to proceed as planned on the 22nd, and it is known that there is a buffer in the recorded content.
TV Chosun's "The Nation Calls" and "The Nation," as well as JTBC's "Gather and Play 2," plan to proceed with the scheduled recordings without Kim Seongju.
Recently, many broadcasters actively working in various entertainment shows, including Yoo Jae-suk, Jeon Hyun-moo, and Jo Se-ho, have consecutively tested positive, raising red flags in the broadcasting industry. Accordingly, special attention is required for quarantine systems and recording environments.
