Seoul Jung-gu Increases Infectious Disease Death Compensation Amount to 10 Million Won
Automatic Enrollment for All Residents Registered in Jung-gu, Seoul, Full Coverage of Insurance Premiums... New Provisions for Bicycle Accident Deaths and Disabilities, School Zone Injury Treatment Costs, Dog Bite Emergency Room Treatment Fees, etc.
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seo Yang-ho) will significantly expand the coverage of the 'Jung-gu Life Safety Insurance' in the new year 2022.
The 'Jung-gu Life Safety Insurance,' implemented since 2021, is a system designed to comfort residents who have suffered damage from unexpected disasters and safety accidents and to help them return to daily life.
Residents registered in Jung-gu (including foreigners) are automatically enrolled without any separate subscription process, and the insurance is automatically canceled upon moving out.
The coverage period is from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, and claims must be made within three years from the date of the accident occurring during the coverage period.
This year, the infectious disease coverage amount has been increased compared to last year, and to provide broader benefits to residents, overlapping items with Seoul City Citizen Safety Insurance have been excluded and redesigned to focus on frequently occurring items.
The coverage items total five categories: ▲ Death from infectious diseases (10 million KRW) ▲ Death or permanent disability from bicycle accidents (up to 10 million KRW) ▲ Treatment expenses for injuries from school zone traffic accidents (for children under 12 years old, up to 10 million KRW) ▲ Emergency room treatment expenses for dog bite accidents (up to 200,000 KRW), among others.
In the case of death from infectious diseases, compensation is available for accidents occurring both domestically and overseas, while other items are limited to accidents occurring within Korea. Overlapping coverage with other insurances is possible, but death coverage is excluded for those under 15 years old according to commercial law.
Insurance claims can be filed directly by the insured (the individual or legal heir) to the insurance company (Korea Local Finance Guarantee Fund). Detailed information can be found on the Jung-gu Office website's notice board. Inquiries can be made to the Korea Local Finance Guarantee Fund consultation desk or the Jung-gu Office Life Safety Division.
