172 National Assembly Members Say, "The Tragedy of Late Roh Moo-hyun Must Not Be Repeated... Yoon Should Resign Over 'Moon Jae-in Investigation' Remarks"
Democratic Party Urges Yoon Seok-yeol to Resign at Party Meeting on 10th
"Unfoundedly Labeling the Incumbent President as Part of Deep-rooted Corruption"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Regarding Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, stating that he could investigate the Moon Jae-in administration if he comes to power, all 172 members of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea condemned him, demanding that he "immediately apologize and resign."
They also mentioned the late former President Roh Moo-hyun. They said, "The people of the Republic of Korea clearly witnessed the political investigation and political retaliation against former President Roh Moo-hyun in 2009. They saw how false charges were fabricated and how one person was driven to death," emphasizing, "Such a tragedy must never be repeated for the people of Korea."
On the 10th at 4 p.m., the Democratic Party held a party meeting at the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee meeting room in Yeouido, Seoul, where they issued a condemnation statement demanding, "Candidate Yoon must immediately apologize, resign, and fully cooperate with the investigation into his spouse." They criticized, "Candidate Yoon's declaration of political retaliation is an unconstitutional idea that directly denies constitutional values and a complete rejection of democratic politics based on dialogue and compromise," calling it "a dangerously reckless political agitation that could turn the history of the Republic of Korea backward and plunge the country into chaos and crisis."
They further stated, "As a presidential candidate, one should propose solutions to overcome crises and take the lead in uniting the people's strength. Now, the presidential candidate of the main opposition party declaring political retaliation and inciting division and conflict among the people is tantamount to admitting that he lacks the qualifications to be president," criticizing him.
