Missile Command Organization to Be Strengthened
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The Army Missile Command is being expanded and reorganized into the ‘Army Missile Strategy Command.’ This is due to the deployment of the latest missiles, including the Hyunmoo series of ballistic and cruise missiles, which has strengthened strategic and operational missions.
On the 10th, the Ministry of National Defense announced the legislative notice for the Army Missile Command Ordinance (draft) and decided to raise the rank of the commander of the reorganized Army Missile Strategy Command from Major General to Lieutenant General. In addition, the headquarters staff and directly subordinate units of the command will also be expanded and reinforced.
Established in 2014, the Army Missile Command is a command-level unit that operates the latest missiles possessed by the military, including the Hyunmoo series of ballistic and cruise missiles. The reorganized Missile Strategy Command is expected to actively respond to changed security threats such as North Korea’s missile technology advancements and carry out missions to precisely strike strategic and operational targets during wartime.

However, the Ministry of National Defense stated that the reorganization of the Missile Command is not being pursued as a predecessor to the Military Strategy Command. The Strategy Command is a unit that integrates and operates strategic assets against North Korea from each military branch, including ballistic missiles, F-35A stealth fighters, and 3,000-ton class submarines. However, the military decided to scrap the plan, judging that it would overlap with existing military organizations and reduce efficiency in terms of military force development and operations.
