Gwangju City Strengthens Measures for Major Accident Prevention and Response
'Expert Invitation Briefing Session' Held
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City held an 'Expert Invitation Briefing on the Enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act' and has taken steps to strengthen capabilities for preventing and responding to serious accidents.
According to Gwangju City on the 9th, about 130 managers including Deputy Mayor Kim Jonghyo, heads of departments and divisions, section chiefs, business site managers, and heads of affiliated organizations attended the briefing.
The lecture was given by Shim Woobae, CEO of Earth Co., Ltd., an expert who participated in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's briefing sessions on the Serious Accident Punishment Act for local governments and in producing explanatory guides for the Act.
He introduced the main contents of the Serious Accident Punishment Act and explained response measures such as the obligation of management to ensure safety and health, the establishment of safety and health management systems, and compliance requirements.
The Serious Accident Punishment Act, which came into effect on the 27th of last month, stipulates penalties for business owners and management responsible for establishing safety and health management systems in enterprises or institutions to prevent industrial accidents among workers at workplaces and serious accidents at public facilities.
Gwangju City has formed and is operating a Serious Accident TF team to systematically prevent serious accidents and to fulfill the role of a dedicated organization responding to the Serious Accident Punishment Act. In the future, it plans to establish a dedicated organization to comprehensively manage safety and health-related tasks at workplaces.
Additionally, the city will inspect the establishment of safety and health management systems at workplaces and public facilities and hold progress report meetings to ensure thorough prevention and response to serious accidents.
