Vice Chairman Jeong Yong-jin Satirizes Short Track Biased Judging Controversy... "Halmanhan"
Jung Yong-jin, Vice Chairman of Shinsegae Group, recently satirized the controversy over biased judging in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics short track speed skating.
On the 9th, Vice Chairman Jung posted a photo of Hwang Dae-heon’s short track men’s 1000m semifinal race on his SNS (Instagram), writing, "What is the problem? If you didn’t go ahead, it’s just pushing the back player’s arm with your calf... #halmalha-an (I have a lot to say but won’t say it). JKRMISDGMPS."
In the men’s 1000m short track semifinal on the 7th, Hwang Dae-heon crossed the finish line first but was disqualified for allegedly obstructing opponents by changing his path late while overtaking two Chinese skaters. As a result, the Chinese skaters who finished 2nd and 3rd advanced to the final and won the gold and silver medals.
The mass disqualification of short track skaters including Hwang Dae-heon and Lee Jun-seo sparked fierce controversy over biased judging both domestically and internationally. The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee held an emergency press conference and decided to file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the judgment in the men’s 1000m short track semifinal, taking action in response.
