[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will expand the operation of the 'Nowon Music Broadcast,' currently operating on major walking trails, from 2 locations to 4 locations.
Due to high resident satisfaction with the existing Nowon Music Broadcast on Danghyeoncheon and Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail, it was decided to additionally broadcast music on two locations: Uicheon (3 km) and Bulamsan Healing Town (2.1 km).
The newly established sections of Uicheon and Bulamsan have completed pilot operations and officially started full operation from the 3rd.
The district installed 18 new amplifiers and 191 speakers in the two sections to provide high-quality music broadcast services.
In particular, Bulamsan Healing Town installed speakers shaped like stones, insects, and outdoor landscaping speakers considering the walking environment. Additionally, in the Azalea Hill section, 'natural healing sounds (ASMR)' such as bird songs, wind sounds, and valley sounds are broadcast to help emotional stability.
The Uicheon and Bulamsan Healing Town sections are network-based, allowing detailed adjustment of sound for each section. This is to quickly respond to residents' complaints and adjust the volume at any time.
Considering the recent difficulty of going outdoors due to COVID-19 and cold waves, the district made it possible to listen to real-time broadcasts online through the 'Nowon Smart City app' and the 'Nowon-gu Mihongssi YouTube' channel.
Nowon Music Broadcast has been officially operating since April 2020 on the 2.9 km Danghyeoncheon and 6.3 km Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail sections and continues to this day.
It operates from Monday to Saturday, excluding holidays. From 12 PM to 4 PM, various genres of music suitable for the season and weather are played, and from 6 PM to 8 PM, a DJ conducts a live radio broadcast, introducing various stories and song requests.
If you want to participate directly and communicate through the broadcast, you can search for 'Nowon Music Broadcast' in KakaoTalk Open Chat or scan the QR code information boards installed throughout the four operating sections to join.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "I hope that residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 situation regain vitality through the Nowon Music Broadcast heard on walking paths," and added, "We will continue to promote various projects for residents' daily healing."
Jongno-gu is carrying out the 'Green City Jongno Creation Project,' which contributes to fine dust reduction and heat island effect mitigation based on planting one million trees, providing residents with a pleasant living environment.
This project, implemented over five years from 2020 to 2024 across the entire region, aims this year to plant a total of 220,000 trees including Ipap trees, Zelkova trees, Ginkgo trees, roses, and Euonymus, which are recognized by the Korea Forest Service as fine dust reduction trees.
In the public sector, the district plans to promote the 'Fine Dust Reduction Ecological Forest Creation Project' to establish forests that function as lungs within the city and the 'Greenification Project for Residual Spaces in Living Areas,' which plants trees in local gap spaces to provide shade and beautiful scenery.
In the private sector, the 'Resident Participation Happiness Forest Creation Project' is being implemented, with plans to plant 40,000 trees in 2022 and 190,000 trees over five years.
Jongno-gu's planting of one million trees is gaining attention as a sustainable and eco-friendly fine dust countermeasure. This is because it can continuously reduce fine dust without additional energy or budget while the trees grow.
Accordingly, in 2020 and 2021, active efforts were made to plant trees, and about 650,000 trees, corresponding to 65% of the five-year target, have already been planted.
Considering the many difficulties in private sector planting projects due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the district has worked hard to plant fine dust reduction trees in residual spaces during facility construction led by the public sector.

A district official explained, "Considering the geographical characteristics of Jongno located in the heart of Seoul, the main goal of this project is to plant trees that are highly effective in reducing fine dust and lowering urban temperatures from a long-term perspective," and added, "We will continue to strive to discover places to plant trees such as traffic islands and residual spaces within the region."
