Geochang-gun Initiates River Maintenance to Prepare for Natural Disasters
Stepwise Commencement of 2.1km Section of Local Stream (Hwanggangcheon)
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 4th that it will promote a sediment dredging project to secure the function of the river, prevent natural disasters, and restore the aquatic ecosystem.
This project will be carried out over a 2.1km section of Hwanggangcheon, a local river in Geochang-eup, with a total budget of 1 billion KRW, from this month until December next year. Starting from the Yangpyeonggyo to Awolgyo section, it will be divided into three sections up to Uidonggyo and promoted in stages.
In addition to this river dredging project, the county plans to thoroughly maintain the river by continuously implementing eco-friendly river maintenance projects such as revetment maintenance, riverbed dredging, and grass cutting to minimize damage caused by heavy summer rains.
