[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 3rd that it recently received final establishment approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for the ‘Sangnok Cherry Blossom Village Management Social Cooperative’.
The Sangnok Cherry Blossom Village Management Social Cooperative (hereinafter referred to as the Village Cooperative) is a non-profit community organization created as part of the Nongsong 1-dong Urban Regeneration New Deal project. It held its inaugural general meeting in July last year and has been proceeding with the establishment process of the cooperative.
Since November last year, under resident leadership, the ‘Sangnok Cherry Blossom Village Cafe’ has been opened and is currently in pilot operation.
The Sangnok Cherry Blossom Village Cooperative plans to comprehensively manage the village by creating jobs and generating income for residents through facilities such as the upcoming resident hub facility ‘Village Workshop,’ the resident community facility ‘Cherry Blossom Harmony Center,’ and the ‘Nongsonggol Health Support Center.’
Heo Man-ho, the first chairman of the Village Cooperative, said, “I hope that the Nongsong 1-dong Sangnok Cherry Blossom Village Management Social Cooperative, based on the organic operation through the efforts of members and residents, will bring benefits evenly to the village residents.”
Meanwhile, the Nongsong 1-dong Urban Regeneration New Deal project was selected in 2018 through a competition by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. With a total project cost of 20 billion KRW, in addition to the creation of hub spaces, annual plans include house repair support projects, alleyway maintenance projects, and resident capacity-building programs.
