Hanbyun Files Complaint with Corruption Investigation Office for Prosecutors over Negligence of Duty by Prosecutors Investigating Daejang-dong and Seongnam FC and the Prosecutor General
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Lawyers' Association for Human Rights and Unification of Korea (Hanbyun) announced on the 3rd that it will file a complaint with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) against prosecutors in charge of the Daejang-dong development lobbying and preferential treatment allegations and the Seongnam FC sponsorship fund investigation, as well as Prosecutor General Kim Oh-soo.
Hanbyun plans to file a complaint with the CIO on the same day against Prosecutor General Kim, Seoul Central District Prosecutor Lee Jung-soo, Seoul Central District Prosecutor Kim Tae-hoon, and Suwon District Prosecutor Seongnam Branch Chief Park Eun-jung for dereliction of duty and abuse of authority. Prosecutor General Kim, Chief Lee, and Prosecutor Kim supervised and directed the Daejang-dong case investigation, while Branch Chief Park led the investigation into the Seongnam FC sponsorship fund allegations.
Hanbyun cited the Criminal Procedure Act, which states that "a prosecutor must complete an investigation and decide whether to prosecute within three months from the date of acceptance of a complaint or accusation," and pointed out, "Prosecutors in charge of the Daejang-dong case and the Seongnam FC corruption case also have the obligation to promptly investigate, inform the public of the results and truth, and resolve suspicions."

They added, "The prosecution is consistently engaging in unprecedented dereliction of duty," and said, "It was reported in the media that accountant Jung Young-hak tried to distribute 5 billion won per person to prosecutors-turned-lawyers related to the Daejang-dong apartment sales profits. Can this report be said to be unrelated to the abnormal behavior shown by the prosecution in the Daejang-dong investigation?"
