Ministry of Foreign Affairs Holds Meeting with Nationals in Ukraine... Discusses Emergency Evacuation Plan
Total of 417 Nationals Currently Staying
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] As concerns over Russia's invasion of Ukraine grow, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 1st that it will hold safety meetings with Korean residents, international students, and others staying in Ukraine to discuss emergency evacuation plans and action guidelines.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meetings will be held five times in total from today until the 9th, organized by groups such as representatives of Korean residents, missionary associations, local companies, and international students. In addition to the previously announced international flight information, the ministry plans to contact local airlines and car rental companies to gather additional evacuation options and provide further guidance on the embassy website.
Furthermore, the ministry repeatedly urged Korean nationals staying in Ukraine to depart as early as possible.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring the local situation 24/7 even during the Lunar New Year holiday period. Assembly points for emergency evacuation have been pre-designated in three major cities (the capital Kyiv, western Lviv, and southern Odesa), and step-by-step evacuation plans are continuously being reviewed in preparation for actual situations.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs official stated, "With three staff members dispatched from the headquarters and nearby diplomatic missions joining the on-site response headquarters on the 31st of last month, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine is maintaining a stronger response posture to ensure the safety of overseas nationals," adding, "We are also strengthening prior coordination and cooperation with the host government and major diplomatic missions."
