Gwangyang Steelworks Practices Local Love by Purchasing Regional Agricultural Products for Lunar New Year
Purchase of Local Agricultural Products such as Daap Pears, Jinwol Gotgam, and Taein Bugak
Supporting Local Economic Revitalization Alongside Promoting the Excellence of Regional Agricultural Products
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) held an event to purchase locally produced agricultural products in celebration of the Lunar New Year, aiming to revitalize the local economy.
The Rolling Division of Gwangyang Steelworks, composed of three departments: Hot Rolling, Cold Rolling, and Galvanizing, promoted the purchase of agricultural products to support local farmers struggling due to the prolonged economic downturn caused by COVID-19.
In particular, to promote the excellence of locally produced agricultural products, they decided to purchase representative specialty products from various regions of Gwangyang City.
Upon hearing the heartwarming news from the Rolling Division, the Quality Control Division also meaningfully joined the effort, purchasing agricultural products worth approximately 10 million KRW, including pears worth 2.3 million KRW harvested in Daap-myeon, dried persimmons worth 6.7 million KRW produced in Jinwol-myeon, and bugak (traditional Korean fried seaweed snacks) worth 1.5 million KRW directly made by Haehu Co., Ltd., a village enterprise in Taein-dong, famous for Kim Si-sikji. This supported the local farmers.
Park Jong-il, Deputy Head of the Rolling Division at Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “Everyone worked very hard last year due to COVID-19. As we welcome the Year of the Black Tiger, I wish you better health, more happiness, and above all, a safe year energized by the spirit of the Black Tiger.” He added, “Going forward, the Rolling Division of Gwangyang Steelworks will do its best to empathize with the various challenges faced by the local community and to develop together as a corporate citizen.”
Meanwhile, since 2009, Gwangyang Steelworks has been leading the spread of a culture of sharing by delivering ‘Rice of Hope’ produced by local farmers to neighbors around the area during Lunar New Year and Chuseok, helping them enjoy warm and abundant holidays.
