[2022 Green Mobility Awards] Mobility Innovation Award 'POSCO'
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] POSCO is launching the integrated brand for eco-friendly vehicle products and solutions, ‘e-AutoForce,’ to secure a leading position in the rapidly growing eco-friendly car market, concentrating the group’s capabilities. e-AutoForce is a package of POSCO’s steel and secondary battery material products used in electric and hydrogen vehicles, along with customized solutions for customers utilizing these products.
Key products include high-strength steel sheets for body and chassis, energy-efficient steel sheets for drive motors, battery pack-specific steel, metal separators for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and anode and cathode materials for secondary batteries. The bodies using these products are lightweight yet strong. POSCO’s electric vehicle body solution, PBC-EV, applies more than 45% ultra-high-strength lightweight steel sheets (Giga Steel), achieving a 30% weight reduction compared to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles of the same size.
POSCO’s world-class electric steel sheet, ‘Hyper NO (Non-oriented Electrical Steel),’ was developed to minimize energy loss and improve efficiency during the conversion of electrical energy into rotational energy. As the importance of high-efficiency electrical steel sheets, which directly affect the efficiency of electric vehicle drive components, is increasing, POSCO plans to invest about 1 trillion KRW starting this year to establish a non-oriented electrical steel plant with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons.

Additionally, POSCO independently developed and successfully commercialized the world’s first high-corrosion-resistant, high-conductivity stainless steel Poss470FC used in fuel cell separator materials, a core component of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. This product is evaluated as an innovative material because POSCO’s unique post-processing technology secures surface electrical conductivity while eliminating the need for a coating process.
