InterContinental's Strawberry Buffet Sales Tripled This Month
"Strawberries Priced Like Gold, Unlimited at Hotels"
Friday Extended Operations and Menu Upgrades Also Impact
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] InterContinental Seoul COEX announced on the 24th that sales of its strawberry dessert buffet 'Strawberry Avenue' this month have increased more than threefold compared to the same period last year. The fine dining-style 'Strawberry Gourmet Boutique,' offered with limited seating at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas, is also popular, recording full bookings every week this month.
The hotel stated, "As of the 21st, InterContinental Seoul COEX expects full bookings throughout January, including the Lunar New Year holiday period, and reservations have already exceeded 70% through the second week of February," adding, "The popularity of the strawberry buffet is expected to continue for some time."
Unlike last year, when it operated only on weekends, InterContinental Seoul COEX has extended operations through Fridays this year. They attribute the strong performance to word-of-mouth about the high-sugar, high-quality pesticide-free fresh strawberries supplied, as well as the upgraded buffet menu. Due to a more than 70% surge in strawberry prices compared to the average year?caused by increased exports of domestic strawberries and poor crop yields?customers perceive higher value in the hotel's unlimited strawberry dessert buffet.
The strawberries currently used at InterContinental Seoul COEX and Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas are supplied directly from farms through a business agreement (MOU) with Dooho, a leading domestic smart farm agricultural corporation. These strawberries are cultivated using eco-friendly farming methods and are certified pesticide-free and organic. The hotel explained, "Depending on the optimal shipping period for each strawberry variety, guests can enjoy the most delicious seasonal varieties such as Seolhyang, Geumsil, Jukhyang, Vitaberry, and Daewang Strawberry."
InterContinental Seoul COEX's 'Strawberry Avenue' will be specially operated during the Lunar New Year holiday from January 31 to February 2, in addition to its usual Friday to Sunday schedule. Over 40 menu items will be available.
