Aegis Asset Management Establishes ESG Committee Under the Board of Directors
Professor Lee Hyun-seok of Konkuk University Appointed as Chairman
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Aegis Asset Management announced on the 21st that it has approved a proposal to establish an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Committee under the board of directors, the highest decision-making body.
The ESG Committee is a subcommittee within the board of directors that deliberates and decides on company-wide ESG policies and major ESG issues.
The ESG Committee consists of three members of the board. Professor Hyunseok Lee, chair of the board and a faculty member at Konkuk University Graduate School of Real Estate, serves as the chair of the committee. Outside directors Seyoon Oh, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Woowa Brothers, and Donghoon Shin, head of domestic asset management (KAM) at Aegis Asset Management, also participate in the committee.
Aegis Asset Management is committed to ESG management under the principle that “actions speak louder than declarations.” To enable employees to be the main agents of implementation, it plans to promote an ESG culture using a bottom-up approach rather than a top-down one.
Additionally, the company plans to strengthen the ESG Operations Committee (formerly the ESG Committee), a working-level meeting body involving internal members. Compared to the previous committee, it will expand the scope and authority of participating members to gather consensus for carrying out ESG tasks. An ESG team will also be launched to continuously handle ESG-related tasks such as evaluating compliance with ESG criteria for new investments.
Previously, Aegis Asset Management has been recognized for its ESG efforts through consistent eco-friendly investments. Since 2018, it has received the highest rating of '5 Stars' for four consecutive years from GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark), a global ESG evaluation organization. This rating was based on the company’s ESG policies and the environmental, social, and governance performance of its managed asset, Autoway Tower. Autoway Tower monitors resource usage and carbon emissions in real time using an energy diagnosis web service.
