Tomorrow's Weather, 'Daehan' Severe Cold... Heavy Snow in Yeongdong Starting Tonight

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] On Thursday, the day of Daehan (Great Cold) in the solar calendar, morning temperatures in the central inland, eastern Jeonbuk, and inland Gyeongbuk are expected to drop below minus 10 degrees Celsius, bringing severe cold. Caution is advised on icy roads in areas where snow or rain has fallen.
The lowest morning temperatures on the 20th are expected to range from minus 14 to minus 2 degrees Celsius, similar to the 19th.
Expected lowest temperatures in major cities are minus 8 degrees in Seoul and Incheon, minus 9 degrees in Daejeon, minus 6 degrees in Gwangju and Daegu, and minus 3 degrees in Ulsan and Busan.
Daytime high temperatures will range between 0 and 9 degrees Celsius, similar to or slightly higher than the 19th. Seoul is forecasted to have a daytime high of 2 degrees, Incheon 0 degrees, Daejeon 4 degrees, Gwangju 5 degrees, Daegu and Ulsan 6 degrees, and Busan 8 degrees.
Snow is expected in Gangwon Yeongdong and Jeju from the evening of the 19th through the morning of the 20th. Snow will also fall along the eastern coast of Gyeongbuk from dawn to morning on the 20th.
Snow accumulation is expected to be 5 to 15 cm in Gangwon Yeongdong, northern Gyeongbuk eastern coast, northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk, Jeju mountainous areas, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo (with more than 20 cm in some parts of Gangwon Yeongdong, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo), and 1 to 5 cm along the southern Gyeongbuk eastern coast.
The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "Between the night of the 19th and dawn of the 20th, some areas in Gangwon Yeongdong and the northern Gyeongbuk eastern coast may experience snowfall exceeding 7 cm per hour," and urged, "Please prepare to prevent any damage."
Strong winds with instantaneous gusts exceeding 55 km/h are expected along the western coast of Chungnam, the Jeolla coast, and Jeju until the morning of the 20th.
