Polestar Korea Launches Pure Electric Car 'Polestar 2' in Korea... Starting at 54.9 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Polestar Korea is officially launching the brand's first pure electric vehicle, the 'Polestar 2', in the domestic market.
On the 18th, Polestar Korea held a launch event for the Polestar 2 at the Seoul Wave Art Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and announced that pre-orders will be available through the official website.
Led by CEO Thomas Ingenlath, a former designer, Polestar pursues Scandinavian minimal design that seeks pure beauty through restraint and simplicity. The frameless side mirrors, first applied to the Polestar 2, are not only excellent in design but also reduce size by 30%, enhancing aerodynamic performance. The matte emblem in the same color as the vehicle also highlights the minimal design.
Inside, vegan materials and recycled plastics are used to minimize environmental impact while emphasizing Polestar's unique minimalism. WeaveTech is lighter and more durable than leather and reduces the concentration of certain compounds from 45% to 1%.
The Polestar 2 is the first electric vehicle in Korea to come standard with the electric vehicle-exclusive TMAP infotainment system based on the Android Automotive operating system (OS). It includes TMAP, the AI platform 'NUGU' with a 96% voice recognition rate, and the music application 'FLO' based on user preferences.
The Polestar 2 also offers a digital key and the Polestar app. Unlike typical digital keys that use radio frequency, it responds only to paired mobile phones, providing superior security. Sensors placed on the Polestar 2 body detect the approach of the paired phone, activating the vehicle with high accuracy and security.
Additionally, the Polestar 2 boasts top-level safety among electric vehicles. It received the highest 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP vehicle safety assessment and achieved the highest overall score in the electric vehicle category. The Polestar 2 comes standard with advanced safety systems such as lane-keeping assist, road departure prevention, forward collision warning, collision avoidance/mitigation, and standard cruise control. Selecting the Pilot Pack adds features like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, 360-degree cameras, Pilot Assist, and intersection warning systems.
The Polestar 2 offers two powertrains in Korea: Long Range Single Motor and Dual Motor. It comes standard with a heat pump and is equipped with LG Energy Solution's 78 kWh lithium-ion battery. The Long Range Dual Motor delivers class-leading 408 horsepower and 660 Nm of powerful torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, with a total driving range of 334 km per full charge. The Single Motor produces 231 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque, with a maximum driving range of 417 km. Using a 150 kW fast charger, it takes 30 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. One-pedal driving and a 3-stage regenerative braking function are also provided.
The price of the Polestar 2 starts at 54.9 million KRW for the Single Motor and 57.9 million KRW for the Dual Motor. Package options include the Pilot Pack for 3.5 million KRW, which supports driving; the Plus Pack for 4.5 million KRW, which adds value to the vehicle; and the Performance Pack for 5.5 million KRW, which maximizes driving performance. Customers who select the Plus Pack can also add Nappa leather seats with ventilation for an additional 4 million KRW.
Polestar Korea also provides industry-leading warranties to ensure the Polestar 2's successful establishment in the domestic market: a 5-year or 100,000 km warranty on general parts and an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty on the high-voltage battery. Free pick-up and delivery service is offered for warranty repairs. Additionally, 5 years of LTE data and 1 year of FLO music app service are included as standard.
Polestar will conduct pre-orders for the Polestar 2 through the official domestic website from today until February 21. Customers who order the Plus Pack or higher during pre-order will receive either 1 year of unlimited charging credits or free installation of a home charger. Vehicle delivery will begin in March.
Ham Jong-sung, CEO of Polestar Korea, stated, "With active support from our headquarters in Sweden, we are able to introduce the Polestar 2 with attractive pricing and product competitiveness unmatched by any other market worldwide." He added, "Through the Polestar 2, we will expand the spectrum of premium electric vehicles and focus on providing a 'premium experience' across services and the brand, setting a new standard in the domestic electric vehicle market."
