[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The Central Accident Response Headquarters for Avian Influenza (AI) announced on the 16th that a highly pathogenic AI case was confirmed at a meat duck farm in Yeongam, Jeonnam.
Approximately 33,000 meat ducks are being raised at this farm. There are no other poultry farms within a 1 km radius. This is the 21st confirmed case of highly pathogenic AI at poultry farms during this winter season.
The Response Headquarters immediately deployed an initial response team to the site upon confirmation of the suspected case to implement proactive quarantine measures such as access control to the farm, preventive culling, and epidemiological investigation.
The Headquarters urged, "This is a dangerous situation with continuous detection of highly pathogenic AI in wild birds and poultry farms. Poultry farms must remain vigilant and thoroughly carry out the four-step disinfection process, including double disinfection of incoming vehicles." Entrances without disinfection and quarantine facilities, such as side gates and barn doors, must be closed.
