Police Conduct Search and Seizure at Three Subcontractors in Gwangju Collapse Incident
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The police are accelerating their investigation by conducting raids on three subcontractors involved in the construction of the Gwangju Hwajeong I-Park, whose exterior wall collapsed.
The Gwangju Police Agency Investigation Headquarters (Violent Crime Investigation Unit) announced on the 13th that they conducted raids on these companies the previous day.
These companies are reported to include those that directly carried out the reinforced concrete work as subcontractors and those that supplied equipment and materials.
According to the relevant authorities, all of these are cooperative companies legally participating in the construction, not illegal re-subcontracting, but the exact contractual relationships will only be known as the investigation progresses.
The police initially intended to conduct raids on the internal site offices of the construction where the accident occurred, but due to safety concerns such as the risk of further collapse, access to the site has been restricted, and they have been unable to execute the warrants.
In connection with this incident, A (49), the site manager belonging to the construction company HDC Hyundai Development Company, has also been booked.
Meanwhile, the accident occurred around 3:46 p.m. the previous day, when the exterior walls and structures from the 23rd to the 38th floors collapsed while concrete was being poured on the rooftop of the 39th floor at the apartment construction site.
One worker was lightly injured and transported to the hospital, while six workers remain missing.
A stated that he "carried out the construction according to proper procedures" and is known to be denying the charges.
