Holiday Food Made Easy... Shinsegae Food's Holiday Ready Meals Sales Up 47%
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] It has been revealed that the number of consumers opting for convenience foods during holidays is increasing.
According to Shinsegae Food on the 10th, sales of ‘Olban’ small-packaged holiday convenience foods such as jeon (Korean pancakes) and meat in 2021 increased by 21% compared to 2020. In particular, sales during the three weeks leading up to Seollal and Chuseok rose by 39% and 47%, respectively.
Shinsegae Food analyzed that this trend is due to the increase in single- and two-person households, resulting in fewer family members spending holidays together, and the prolonged COVID-19 social distancing measures leading more consumers to enjoy holiday meals at home with convenience foods. Additionally, compared to last year, the increased burden of ingredient prices and the rise of the millennial generation seeking efficiency and convenience in holiday household chores are expected to further boost the purchase of small-packaged holiday convenience foods online.
Accordingly, Shinsegae Food will hold an event on the 12th through a Naver live broadcast to showcase ‘Olban’ convenience foods for holiday table settings. In this live broadcast, popular holiday foods such as ‘Olban Small Bulgogi and Jeongol Broth,’ ‘Olban Thick Tteokgalbi,’ and ‘Olban Donggeurangttaeng’ (jeon varieties), as well as small-packaged meats like ‘Olban X Sungui Garden Scored Pork Ribs,’ ‘Olban Marinated Beef Ribeye,’ and ‘Olban Crispy Duck Bulgogi’ will be offered at special prices.
Along with this, Shinsegae Food will provide a Starbucks Americano gifticon to the first 500 customers who purchase over 30,000 KRW, and an electric grill worth approximately 150,000 KRW will be given as a prize to the first 10 customers who purchase over 150,000 KRW in a promotional event.
