Lufthansa Suspends Flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] German Lufthansa Airlines on the 6th (local time) suspended flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan, where a state of emergency was declared as large-scale anti-government protests against soaring prices intensified.
A Lufthansa spokesperson told major foreign media on the day, "Due to the unfolding situation, we have decided to suspend regular flights to Almaty until further notice."
Almaty Airport was occupied by anti-government protesters but was retaken by government forces.
In Kazakhstan, a state of emergency was declared nationwide as large-scale anti-government protests intensified from the beginning of the year, protesting soaring prices including the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for vehicles.

During the escalation of the protests, AP and AFP reported that dozens of protesters and 12 security personnel were killed. One of the security personnel was found beheaded.
