Gwangju Seo-gu Promotes Community-Based 'Urban Greening Project'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 6th that it will promote an urban greening project to expand life-friendly green spaces to alleviate citizens' feelings of helplessness and depression caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
To this end, Seo-gu has secured a total project budget of over 3.7 billion won this year alone and plans to carry out projects such as ▲Life Gardens ▲Fine Dust Blocking Forests ▲Child Safety Green Zones ▲Increasing Green Space per Unit Area ▲Future Forests (School Forests) ▲and Green Road Development.
In particular, to heal COVID-19 blues, Seo-gu will create unique and diverse indoor and outdoor gardens in public facilities such as the Seo-gu Public Health Center and the district office building, providing a place for visiting citizens to recover their mind and body exhausted by COVID-19 and to share garden culture.
Additionally, forests blocking urban fine dust have been established near the Second Ring Road and Seogwangju Station railroad, as well as at the boundary of the Second Ring Road, and a child safety green forest has been created along the walkway near Uncheon Elementary School.
Seo-gu will implement a ‘Carbon Neutral City Seo-gu’ to respond to climate crises such as fine dust and heat waves, and expand green spaces within the city to improve residents' quality of life.
A Seo-gu official stated, “We will do our best to promote life-friendly urban greening projects so that citizens exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic can utilize green resting spaces in the city and find some comfort.”
