Professor Min's team's paper titled "Bacteria and bacterial derivatives as delivery carriers for immunotherapy" was published in the latest issue of "Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews" (Impact Factor 15.470), the top journal in the field of drug delivery technology.
This review paper comprehensively summarizes bacteria or bacterial-derived substances used in immunotherapy for cancer, infectious diseases, metabolic diseases, genetic disorders, vascular diseases, and gastrointestinal diseases.
Professor Yoo Suwoong of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital and Dr. Nguyen Dinh-Huy participated as co-authors.
Professor Min's Molecular Imaging and Theranostics Laboratory has been developing foundational technology for "cancer immunotherapy programming using bacteria" for the past 15 years.
They are commercializing technology by developing genetically engineered strains that specifically target cancer, synthetic biology techniques that selectively release therapeutic drugs, and imaging technology that tracks the movement of bacteria within the body.
This technology has been transferred to Chonnam National University startup company CNQure Co., Ltd., where production processes are being developed, and clinical phase 1 trial approval is expected to be submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The paper comprehensively summarizes the characteristics of therapeutic strains for various diseases including cancer, biological synthesis methods, and results from existing preclinical and clinical studies.
Meanwhile, the Biology Research Information Center (BRIC) is the most widely used research information and communication website among domestic life science researchers. It has been operated since 1996 with support from the National Research Foundation of Korea and Pohang University of Science and Technology, informing domestic researchers about excellent bio-related papers by Korean scientists (first and corresponding authors) published in major international journals.
Among these, "Hanbitsa" was planned to inform domestic researchers about outstanding papers recognized for excellence, including those published in journals with an impact factor above 10, papers in the top 5% journals by field recommended by experts, and highly cited papers.
