Busan City Launches 'Digital Innovation Busan Special Committee' ... Accelerating Green Smart City Development
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The 'Digital Innovation Busan Special Committee,' which will lead the success of the 'Green Smart City Busan' and prepare for the acceleration of digital transformation, is being launched.
Busan City announced on the 4th that it will announce the launch of the special committee at City Hall and hold its first meeting.
The special committee is composed of about 40 experts, including businesspeople, university professors, and association officials related to smart cities, ICT, AI, and urban planning, with Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun as the chairman.
It will gather opinions related to the 4th Industrial Revolution to respond to the accelerating digital transformation. It will serve as a comprehensive control tower for ▲establishing digital innovation vision and strategy ▲providing advice on major digital innovation policies and technologies ▲discovering and fostering future growth engine industries ▲building cooperative systems with the central government and other institutions.
The city plans to announce the 'Busan Digital Economy Innovation Strategy 2030' and present a concrete blueprint to leap forward as a leading city in digital transformation.
The 'Busan Digital Economy Innovation Strategy 2030' was established after long discussions among related departments of Busan City, Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP), Busan Technopark, Busan Economic Promotion Agency, and Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency.
The innovation strategy includes goals such as ▲rising to the top 20 smart cities worldwide by 2030 ▲training 20,000 digital creative talents ▲achieving annual sales of 20 trillion KRW in digital new industries.
Busan City plans to actively realize the vision with these core strategies as targets.
The city will support the development and commercialization of core technologies such as AI, big data, and 5G communication, and expand the proportion of digital economy R&D investment from the current 20% to 40%.
By establishing a convergence graduate school and supporting on-site training for new technologies for workers, the city will train 2,000 innovative and creative talents leading the digital economy annually.
The city will invest 1.5 trillion KRW in digital new technology startups by expanding the digital startup venture fund and actively attracting investments in digital startup companies.
The proportion of automation using smart manufacturing robots will also be increased from the current 10% to 80%, and the digital integration support for small-scale service industries will expand the digital new industry ecosystem. The related industry sales are planned to be raised from the current 11.8 trillion KRW to around 20 trillion KRW.
Digital economy innovation hubs will be created according to the characteristics of East Busan, the original downtown, and West Busan areas, gradually increasing the proportion of digital technology-based startup venture companies from the current 13% to 23%.
A Busan City official said, “Fostering the digital economy is expected to bring a revolutionary rebound to the Busan economy, which is struggling due to social structural changes such as the decline in the youth population and the entrenchment of a low-growth trend, and will serve as an important momentum to change Busan’s future economic map.”
The city will proceed with the detailed tasks of the digital innovation strategy as planned and regularly check the implementation status through the 'Digital Innovation Busan Special Committee.'
