[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in stated on the 4th, regarding the 'Partial Amendment Act on the Special Act for the Investigation of the Jeju 4·3 Incident and the Restoration of Honor for the Victims,' which was approved at the Cabinet meeting, that "It is very significant as the first legislative measure concerning civilian casualties that occurred around the Korean War," and added, "It is fortunate that justice is now being realized 70 years after the incident occurred."
He continued, "This special law serves as a lesson for resolving past issues and will become a legislative standard for similar civilian casualty incidents," and said, "With this law establishing compensation standards for the Jeju 4·3 Incident, I hope it will facilitate smooth legislative resolutions for civilian casualty cases in the future."
Meanwhile, President Moon received a report on the '2022 Industrial Accident Death Reduction Plan following the Enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act' and remarked, "Although industrial accident deaths last year decreased to the lowest ever recorded, it falls far short of the pledge made at the start of the government to halve industrial accident deaths," adding, "It is shameful that backward accidents still occur at industrial sites, and my heart aches every time an accident happens," urging special efforts to reduce accidents.
