It remains uncertain whether candidate Yoon will accept the resignations en masse, but the originally envisioned 'Three Kims (Kim) system' has come to an abrupt halt.
After meeting with candidate Yoon on the day, General Election Committee Chairman Kim told reporters, "The candidate was somewhat emotionally distressed because he heard such news suddenly," adding, "I think things will return to normal after today."
Kim Byung-joon, Standing Election Committee Chairman, is also reported to have agreed to the collective resignation as part of organizational reform.
Kim Han-gil, Chairman of the New Era Preparation Committee, expressed his intention to take responsibility in relation to the resignation of Senior Vice Chairman Shin Ji-ye. Kim issued a statement on Shin's resignation, saying, "This is an unfortunate outcome caused by the serious gender debate in our society," and "I deeply feel responsible for the reality that failed to overcome the misunderstandings imposed on him."
Won Hee-ryong, General Headquarters Policy Chief, and Joo Ho-young, General Headquarters Organization Chief, also conveyed their intention to resign collectively.
Prior to the election committee, the People Power Party's floor leadership also announced their intention to resign. Floor Leader Kim Ki-hyun, Policy Committee Chairman Kim Do-eup, and Deputy Floor Leader for Policy Chu Kyung-ho held an emergency members' meeting that day and expressed their resignations. Floor Leader Kim emphasized, "We all must completely reform ourselves and resolve to start anew with humility and a low profile." Chairman Kim also said, "The People Power Party was ordered by the people to change the regime, but we are violating the people's order due to internal issues," adding, "We have neither the authority nor the qualification to disobey the people's mandate for regime change."
