[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Stores in Songjeong-dong and Sageun-dong, Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Wono) have completed a fresh and friendly redesign through the ‘Our Neighborhood Store Artterior’ project.

‘Our Neighborhood Store Artterior (Art+Interior)’ is a project that improves store design through collaboration between small business owners and local artists. It provides artists with opportunities to showcase their creativity and secure workspace and jobs, while enhancing the competitiveness of stores with interiors that highlight each store’s unique characteristics.

The district promoted the project targeting a total of 39 stores located in Songjeong-dong and Sageun-dong. In July, 15 local artists were recruited to carry out the design project, and design work such as murals, exterior stickers, menus, logo creation, and signboards was conducted according to the characteristics of each store.

Stores newly renovated through the artists’ touch have transformed with unique designs. At the Songjeong-dong pizzeria ‘Pizzaeong○’, a menu board featuring photos of eight types of pizza slices sold was created, and the store owner and participating artists continuously communicated to create distinctive designs for boxes, flyers, delivery items, and other detailed parts.

At the Sageun-dong restaurant (Takeo○), a new logo was designed and installed as a stylish art wall. Exterior stickers and guide signs were also changed to the transformed logo, bringing the store’s unique interior sense to life.

Additionally, a laundry with a dark atmosphere replaced the logo workbench and installed lighting, set up a curtain with the logo attached to create a bright atmosphere, and separated the workspace and rest area, creating an efficient space. Store owners responded positively to the changed interiors such as shutter painting, LED menu boards, signboards, and table designs.

The representative of Pizzaeong○ in Songjeong-dong said, “I felt satisfied looking at the menu board we created together after much consideration,” and expressed gratitude, saying, “Seeing the interior gives me strength, and I am thankful that the district office is running such a project.”

The representative of Takeo○ in Sageun-dong also praised, “I really like the newly created logo and am so satisfied that it could be used as a franchise logo.”

Mayor Jeong Wono of Seongdong-gu said, “Small business owners can improve their store image without financial burden, so their satisfaction is very high,” and added, “I hope this project becomes a new vitality and a chance for both local small business owners and artists, who are struggling amid the prolonged COVID-19 economic downturn, to recover and leap forward.”
