Seoul City Activates Emergency Duty System to Prepare for Heavy Snow on First Holiday of New Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Seoul City announced on the 31st that it will activate an emergency snow removal duty system from the late afternoon of the 1st in preparation for the heavy snowfall expected in the Seoul area in the early morning of the 2nd.
The city plans to detect signs of snowfall in advance through CCTVs installed along the snowfall path in the West Sea region and prioritize spreading snow removal agents on vulnerable roads such as alleys and steep slopes. It will also consider raising the response level in areas expected to receive heavy snowfall.
The city has installed snow removal boxes on sidewalks and side roads, where snow removal work is relatively difficult, for use by any citizen. The locations of these boxes can be checked on the Seoul Safety Nuri website.
The city urged drivers to maintain a sufficient safety distance while driving, as frozen snow can cause slipping accidents, and to be especially cautious about safety to prevent falls and other accidents.
Additionally, since heavy snowfall is forecasted, the city emphasized the need for a healthy civic spirit by encouraging residents to clear the snow in front of their homes and stores themselves.
