Gwangju Bukbu Fire Station Urges Inspection of Evacuation Facilities in Apartment Complexes
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Gwangju Bukbu Fire Station (Chief Kim Hee-chul) announced on the 30th that it has launched a campaign to promote the use of evacuation facilities installed inside apartment units for use in emergencies.
Evacuation facilities inside apartment units can be used when evacuation through corridors or stairs is impossible due to flames and smoke, and include lightweight partitions, evacuation spaces, and downward evacuation exits.
The lightweight partition is a boundary wall made of easily breakable gypsum board, etc., designed to allow evacuation to neighboring units through the balcony during a fire. When tapped, it produces a light "ttong-ttong" sound, and in an emergency, it can be easily broken to evacuate to the neighboring unit.
The evacuation space is a space installed on the balcony with fire-resistant walls and fire doors to block fire, designed to prevent casualties caused by flames and smoke. In an emergency, residents can take refuge in the evacuation space, close the fire door, and request rescue.
The downward evacuation exit is a facility installed on apartment balconies that allows residents to unfold an evacuation ladder and escape to the lower floor during a fire. In an emergency, open the evacuation exit, unfold the ladder, and evacuate to the lower floor.
