Even General Soldiers Receive Employment and Startup Support After Discharge
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] From now on, enlisted soldiers who have completed their mandatory military service will also be able to receive support for employment or entrepreneurship. Until now, the Veterans Support Act has mainly regulated support projects for mid- to long-term veterans who served for more than five years, excluding enlisted soldiers.
On the 30th, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced that it is promoting an amendment to the "Veterans Support Act," adding a new definition for mandatory service veterans and including provisions to provide employment and entrepreneurship support to those mandatory service veterans who need national assistance.
The amendment bill submitted to the National Assembly on the 23rd defines those who served less than five years on active duty, supplementary service, or alternative service under the Military Service Act, Military Personnel Act, or alternative service-related laws and have been discharged.
Until now, support projects have been regulated mainly for mid- to long-term veterans who served more than five years. For mandatory service veterans (about 300,000 annually), only some support measures such as extending the upper age limit for employment exam eligibility, including military service period in work experience when determining seniority and wages, and medical support for severe illnesses developed during military service have been included in the law.
