"Korean Wave in Europe... Number of Korean Language Majors Triples"
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] As interest in Korean culture rises in Europe, reports have emerged that the number of university students majoring in Korean language has significantly increased.
On the 29th (local time), the UK Council of Modern Languages (UCML) published a report stating that the number of university freshmen majoring in Korean increased from 50 to 175 between 2012 and 2018, according to the British daily The Guardian.
Experts analyzed that the popularity of Korean language majors has risen due to easier access to Korean pop music, movies, and dramas on platforms like Netflix.
BTS's "Dynamite" music video surpassed 101 million views within a day of its release on YouTube in August 2020, setting the record for the most views in 24 hours for a YouTube music video.
