Construction Industry Decides the Fate of the Serious Accident Punishment Act... Ministry of Employment and Labor Urges "Safety Technology Guidance for Small and Medium Sites"
Meeting with 6 Construction Accident Prevention Expert Agencies on the 29th
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the 29th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor held a meeting with six specialized construction accident prevention guidance organizations at the Korea Information and Communication Contractors Association in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Since the construction industry is known as a sector with frequent industrial accident fatalities and accidents often occur at subcontracted small and medium-sized workplaces nationwide, it is said that the successful establishment of the Serious Accident Punishment Act practically depends on this industry.
Last year, 458 workers died in accidents at construction sites, of which 28 fatalities occurred at small to medium-sized construction sites with contract amounts between 5 billion and 12 billion KRW. The Ministry of Employment and Labor explained the recently created autonomous inspection checklist for preventing serious industrial accidents in the construction industry to the representatives of the six guidance organizations and requested them to focus their guidance on risk factors where fatal accidents frequently occur.

The representatives of the guidance organizations unanimously agreed that, given the characteristics of the construction industry where headquarters and sites are separated and risk factors vary depending on the type of construction, establishing an on-site safety management system in accordance with the Industrial Safety and Health Act is essential. The meeting was attended by representatives from six organizations: the Safety Technology Institute of the Korea Electrical Contractors Association, Korea Construction Safety Technology, the Safety Technology Institute of the Korea Information and Communication Contractors Association, Shin Korea Construction Safety, Maeil Safety Technology Institute, and Korea Construction Safety Guidance Co., Ltd.
