National Pension to Verify Beneficiary Rights via Biometric Authentication Starting Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] The National Pension Service announced that starting next year, it will implement a 'Non-face-to-face National Pension Beneficiary Verification Mobile App Service' for overseas National Pension beneficiaries.
The 'Non-face-to-face Beneficiary Verification Service' is a digital authentication service that allows pension beneficiaries to prove their status using their face and voice.
The Service has regularly verified changes such as the beneficiary's death, divorce, and dependents through official records to ensure proper pension payments.
In particular, overseas beneficiaries such as foreigners or overseas Koreans have faced difficulties as they had to submit official documents for identity and residence verification annually via mail or fax.
To resolve these inconveniences, the Service established a 'Non-face-to-face Beneficiary Verification Service' system in May based on blockchain technology and biometric authentication to verify the beneficiary's identity.
Users authenticate themselves by photographing their passport or using a simple certificate, then initially register their biometric information of face and voice. For beneficiary verification, they only need to complete authentication using the pre-registered biometric information.
When submission of supporting documents is required, users can submit the documents directly through the mobile app, greatly enhancing beneficiary convenience.
The service will begin next year targeting about 3,200 people in six countries including Korea, the United States, Canada, and Australia, with plans to expand the service to additional countries in the future.
