President Moon: "A path is open to investigate military incidents more transparently and uncover the truth"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 28th, President Moon Jae-in stated regarding the 'Promulgation of the Partial Amendment to the National Human Rights Commission Act' passed at the Cabinet meeting, "By establishing the Military Human Rights Protection Officer system, it has become possible for the National Human Rights Commission to directly investigate incidents that occurred within the military, as well as for investigative agencies to conduct investigations, thereby opening a path to more transparently ascertain the truth."
He continued, "Along with the Military Court Act amended last September, I hope this will serve as a turning point to eradicate and prevent serious human rights violations such as sexual violence and harsh treatment within the military, and to dramatically strengthen military human rights," adding, "I urge related agencies to make thorough preparations for the implementation of the system, including follow-up measures."

Additionally, regarding the 'Basic Act on Human Rights Policy' proposed by the government at the Cabinet meeting, he said, "This is a basic law on national human rights policy, the necessity of which has been discussed since the launch of the National Human Rights Commission in 2001," and requested the National Assembly's cooperation for its enactment within his term.
