According to the Ministry of Education on the 28th, the average daily number of student COVID-19 cases in nationwide kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools from the 23rd to the 27th was 689.4, down by 262.3 from the previous week (951.7).
The average daily student cases over the past four weeks were 814.9 → 963.1 → 951.7 → 689.4. The peak was reached during December 9-15, followed by a downward trend.
The average daily number of confirmed cases among school staff over the past five days was 51.6. The four-week average daily cases were 13.7 → 16.2 → 16.0 → 11.6.
Among all students, 66.5% (3.94 million) attended in-person classes.
Nationwide, 77.8% (15,908 schools) conducted in-person classes, while 21.1% (4,312 schools) implemented discretionary holidays or other measures. In the Seoul metropolitan area, 84.4% of schools held in-person classes, compared to 73.8% in non-metropolitan areas.
About half of the schools nationwide began their vacation last week and this week. This week, 42.6% of elementary schools, 45.7% of middle schools, and 47.9% of high schools started their winter vacation. After the first week of January, 26.7% of elementary schools, 40.9% of middle schools, and 27.2% of high schools will begin their vacation.
The average daily number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among university students over the past four weeks was 78.4 → 77.9 → 77.4 → 54.0.
