Gwangju Seo-gu, Joint Housing 'Transparent PET Bottle Separate Collection' Promotion Efforts Intensify
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) is making every effort to promote the new mandatory transparent PET bottle separation and disposal system to residents for its successful establishment.
According to Seo-gu on the 28th, following the Ministry of Environment's revision of the "Guidelines on Separate Collection of Recyclable Resources" last August, which implemented the mandatory transparent PET bottle separation and disposal system for apartment complexes, the system was expanded to include single-family homes as of the 25th of this month.
Seo-gu has been continuously promoting the mandatory transparent PET bottle separation and disposal system through banners, flyers, and homepage banners ahead of the system's implementation.
Additionally, since July, as part of the government's job creation efforts under the COVID-19 crisis response employment stability special measures, 216 resource management helpers have been deployed to apartment complexes and single-family homes in the district to promote the transparent PET bottle separation and disposal system on the front lines.
This year, four additional recycling collection points have been installed in densely populated single-family home areas such as Hwajeong-dong and Yudeok-dong to enhance efforts for separating and disposing of recyclable materials including transparent PET bottles.
High-quality transparent PET bottles can be transformed into long fiber yarn and made into clothing, while lower-quality transparent PET bottles are recycled into cotton and other materials using short fiber yarn.
A Seo-gu official stated, “Empty the contents, remove the label, crush the bottle, and close the cap before disposal. Following these four steps makes our efforts the foundation for recycling resources and contributes to saving the planet,” and added, “We ask all citizens to actively participate in practicing resource circulation.”
