[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] On the 28th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that it is recruiting new project groups to participate in the ‘Technical Officer Training Project’ aimed at nurturing on-site technical personnel for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The ‘Technical Officer Training Project’ was introduced as a specialized high school-college linked education system to systematically train and supply on-site technical personnel for SMEs. Currently, 9 project groups (9 colleges, 17 vocational high schools) are participating.

The newly recruited project groups for the Technical Officer Training Project will operate two project groups with an ‘early employment type curriculum’ to provide industry-academia customized education reflecting the demand of regionally specialized industries and to connect with employment.

The project groups under the Technical Officer Training Project are operated with up to 30 students per college and about 20 students per vocational high school. The project groups will receive approximately 1 billion KRW in project funds over three years, including student activity support expenses, practice material costs, and operating expenses.

Eligibility for application requires a consortium composed of at least one college, two vocational high schools, and more than 20 SMEs, capable of providing linked education among vocational high schools, colleges, and SMEs. Universities subject to government financial support restrictions are excluded from application.

The application and submission period for new project groups is from the 29th until February 16 of next year. Applications can be submitted online through the Comprehensive Management System for SME Workforce Support Projects.

Won Youngjun, Director of Technology Innovation Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, “Through this recruitment, we expect to nurture excellent local talents in the region and supply them to local companies,” adding, “We plan to continuously expand the Technical Officer Training Project groups to revitalize vocational education within the region in the future.”
