[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Lee Sujeong, co-chair of the People Power Party's election countermeasures committee, said on the 27th that the reason why Kim Geonhee, spouse of presidential candidate Yoon Seokyeol, admitted and apologized for allegations of false resume entries appears to be because "Kim herself decided to seek forgiveness."
Lee appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyunjung's News Show' that day and said, "Ultimately, one must apologize for their own mistakes, and only by deeply reflecting and explaining what went wrong can one have a chance to be forgiven. No one can apologize on their behalf."
He added, "Since the media kept raising issues, it seems Kim herself verified all the facts regarding the problems raised by the media," and claimed, "I also thought about it carefully, but I couldn't exactly remember the contents of the resume I submitted in 2010. So, I think she probably checked all those parts herself."
When asked if Kim personally wrote the apology letter, Lee responded, "It seems she wrote it herself. Because there is currently no one in the election committee who claims 'I prepared it.'"
Regarding Kim sharing her experience of miscarriage, he said, "Miscarriage is a very private matter for a woman," and "If someone else had written it for her, they wouldn't have included such a story."
Lee also addressed criticism that Kim's apology letter was emotional, saying, "That criticism is possible," and "It seemed very emotional, with many parts that could bring tears to the point where one wonders how she didn't break down crying."
He continued, "From the perspective of the person involved, since the allegations are about events before marriage, I wonder if her husband even knew exactly," and questioned, "If there had been any falsehood or distortion of this kind, my husband would probably have gotten angry with me immediately. Of course, the apology is directed to the public, but wouldn't the husband also be a recipient?"
Furthermore, he explained, "It's not an official document, and if you say exactly what was wrong at what date and time, would that really be an apology letter?" and "An apology letter inevitably contains emotion. I've seen many apology letters written by defendants in court, and the key is to judge how formal or sincere the apology is."
